INDOT's
Campaign for an Ugly Indianapolis Has INDOT developed a case of the uglies? First: INDOT issued permits that allow billboards to be constructed in our City of Indianapolis, circumventing our city sign ordinances. They obviously have contracts with the billboard industry even going so far as putting cameras on the signs focused on the passing cars. Second: INDOT is shoving the I-69 new terrain route through Perry Township into Indianapolis, ripping up our neighborhoods and land. Third: INDOT is constructing cell towers within the rights-of-way of interstate interchanges: a.
I-70 and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Street Yes, they again circumvented the laws of our city of Indianapolis in the process of jamming their towers down our throats. Their method of operation has a lot to be desired. Indiana, unlike many other states, does not spend any money to beautify the on and off ramps or cloverleaves of our interstates. However, in the past few years, it is obvious that INDOT has made significant contributions to the “Uglification” of Indianapolis/Marion County with billboards, I-69 new terrain route, and now cell towers. INDOT’s disregard for the “quality of life” of the citizens of Indianapolis and the laws of Marion County is quite apparent. What can you expect? All INDOT knows is concrete, asphalt, and steel. |
McANA Mailbag Hello, Ms Burton My name is Georgette Sims, I am the Community Service Coordinator for the Marion Superior Court Adult Probation Department. I spoke at your McANA neighborhood meeting this past March 2003. My Goal is to let all the neighborhood organizations know that free labor is available to assist with neighborhood projects big and small. This assistance is also available to all non profit and faith based agencies and organizations. Our adult Community Service workers also come with a supervisor on Saturdays. Weekday work crews are also available on Thursdays and Fridays each week. Please help me get the word out! To request a work crew or for more information contact: Georgette Sims 327-1002 or gsims@indygov.org **** Hello Pat, I am working with the group that is planning the Share a Legacy/Family History Day community programs for March 2004. The group has talked about a theme of "Neighborhood Histories", and looking at the impact various cultural groups have had on neighborhoods as time has passed. The plan would be to work with 4-6 neighborhoods that have an interest in participating. The "group" includes WFYI, IMCPL, IHS, and FSC. We wanted to give all neighborhoods the opportunity to "opt in" as one of the 4-6. We might also make some targeted phone calls to neighborhoods that have already have a well-documented history. A neighborhood would be committing to work with their local library branch to develop a public display of the area history, to help the local branch develop a public program about the history and cultures of the areas, and to participation in Family History Day at IHS. The library would be developing localized reading lists relevant to the history and cultures that have influenced the neighborhood. The info about each neighborhood would be shared city-wide through the library branches. WFYI will probably also do a video project. Thanks for your feedback, Kristen LaEace 921-1264 or laeace@uwci.org Coordinator, Family Strengthening Coalition send comments to webmaster@mcanaindy.org |
