Comprehensive
Plan We all know how outside forces can cause us to change our plans-a sudden thunderstorm cancels the picnic or an unexpectedly malfunctioning refrigerator puts plans for the new television on hold. For the Indianapolis Insight update of the Comprehensive Plan, an outside force has caused us to change our plans for planning. As we began the land use mapping phase of the update in Perry Township, no decision had been announced by the State of Indiana on a route for the proposed extension of I-69. However, only a few days after the first land use mapping meeting in Perry Township, the State unveiled its plan to route the new interstate highway through western Perry Township. Responsible planning requires that we use the best information available to us as we look into the future. The State’s proposed alternative is still at a conceptual level, leaving many details unclear. Once the environmental studies move into the second phase, called Tier 2, later this year, specific alignments will be established and many more details will come into focus. The Division of Planning has decided to wait until mid-2004 to continue with our land use planning efforts in western Perry Township when, hopefully, more details of the route will be available. Our work in central and eastern Perry Township will continue on schedule with an expected completion time in late spring/early summer 2003. Upcoming Land Use Mapping meetings: Monday,
March 10, 7:00 p.m. Monday,
March 17, 7:00 p.m. Monday,
March 31, 7:00 p.m. Monday,
April 7, 7:00 p.m. Although meetings are being held on a township basis, results from each township will be combined to form an overall Land Use Plan for Marion County. Meetings are open to all Marion County citizens who wish to be involved.
