IndyGo Cutbacks to be Subject of Public Hearings As you know by now, IndyGo has proposed a drastic cut-back in drivers and the routes they run the public bus system in Indianapolis. The public hearings on IndyGo's restructuring will be Tuesday, January 20, at 5:30 pm in the Dr. Beurt SerVaas Public Assembly Room of the City County Building and Wednesday, January 21, at 1 pm in Room 118 City County Building. Please plan on attending one of these meetings, if at all possible, to lend your support to those who will lose their means of transportation. Also, you will be supporting the future mass transit options for all of us. send comments

I-69 Update INDOT Commissioner J. Bryan Nicol released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the extension of I-69 from Indianapolis to Evansville during the Holiday Season. Even though most interested individuals and groups would be occupied by families and festivities, and, even though the FEIS is HUGE and would be a burden for someone like me to lift, much less read, Mr. Nicol only allowed for a 45 day public comment period. A number of groups, McANA included, are seeking a 60 day extension so that a realistic attempt can be made to read the document and give cogent remarks concerning it. We will keep you up to date on developments. Karyn Moskowitz, an economist with GreenFire Consulting, LLC, will present a documentary “Change is Inevitable, Highways are Not” February 18 at 6:00 pm in IUPUI’s University College Building, 815 W. Michigan Street. The film highlights the experiences of rural and urban communities with unwanted and unnecessary highway construction. Admission is free. And last but not least, the Federal Highway Administration has rescinded its support for the extension of Long Beach Freeway in California. Pro-Highway forces have pushed for this road since 1949. Local opposition formed in the mid-60’s to this $1 billion project and they appear finally to have prevailed. |
