LETTER: January 14, 2003 Letter of Support for Soards' Proposed Resolution for the Definition of a Grocery Store Catherine Burton, President of McANA, sent the following letter to City Councilor Bill Soards. RE: Council Resolution 1-2003 Dear Councilor Soards, I regret being unable to attend this evening’s meeting due to work conflicts, but I wish to express whole hearted support from the Marion County Alliance of Neighborhood Associations for Council resolution 1-2003 urging the definition of “grocery store” for the purposes of determining appropriateness of issuing liquor licenses. MCANA is further extremely pleased that you have taken the initiative in a controversial issue to request that the definition preclude the ability of gas stations/convenience stores to obtain liquor licenses. The sale of alcohol in gas stations/convenience stores has been an area of grave concern for the neighborhoods of Marion County for some years and has been identified as one of MCANA’s most critical agenda items for the coming year. We applaud you, and your fellow councilors, for addressing this matter and for having the political fortitude to put the safety of our neighborhoods first. Sincerely,
